Challenges

“HGC has rich customer bases across different industries, including the Over-The-Top (OTT) media service, finance, manufacturing, e-commerce, and gaming industries. Among them, Japan is a significant and important market for video streaming and the gaming industries. HGC aims to offer one-stop managed network services and ICT solutions that support companies to expand their footprint into Japan, and hence, we established a point of presence (PoP) in Japan in 2017.” said Dennis Chan, AVP - OTT & ICT Business, International Business of HGC.

HGC had first planned to establish PoPs in Tokyo and Osaka when they decided to enter Japan.

“When we planned to expand services in Japan, we knew that it is essential for us to establish connection bases not only in Tokyo but also in Osaka from the perspectives of cost and traffic efficiency. It is essential for us to safeguard the security by providing the best network resiliency as well. Osaka is the focal point of the internet for western Japan, where there are many IX service providers, telecom carriers, and ISPs, and the city is the best place for customers to expand business into the western Japan area. For these reasons, we started working to establish parallel connection bases in both Tokyo and Osaka.”

For example, whether they could ensure the service quality to meet customer demands; equip with carrier neutral connectivity; provide appropriate control and ensure safety. NTT SmartConnect fulfilled our requirements and standard, where they provide services under the strict workflow and management processes in international standard. With NTT’s familiarity with the internet and market circumstances in the western Japan area, NTT SmartConnect is one of our trusted service providers in Japan.”

“There are many internet service providers gathering in Dojima. We highly valued NTT SmartConnect which offers the Optical Cabling Service (Dojima Connect), connecting directly to various internet providers. They also offered a wide range of value-added services and a flexible proposal in line with our requirements, which contributed to our decision to collaborate with them.”

Results

In 2017, the PoP was launched as implemented by HGC from NTT SmartConnect’s Dojima Data Center.

“NTT SmartConnect offers us one-stop data center and network connectivity services. We conducted most operations with the remote hand subscription service provided by NTT SmartConnect, especially for those that require urgent action.” (Chan)

“We were able to complete the whole process in a short period of time thanks to NTT SmartConnect, which supported us with the local application preparation such as the submission of the IP address application forms. As for the internet services, we were satisfied with the high quality upstream and reliable peering network, flexible remote hand service and NTT SmartConnect’s timely responses.” (Chan)
