HGC offers support to Malaysian Cybersecurity efforts
In October, HGC announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM), a national cybersecurity specialist and technical agency under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia. HGC Chief Digital Officer Jacqueline Teo and HGC VP of Global Data Business, International Business Henry Cheng discuss how the partnership tackles Malaysia’s ongoing cybersecurity threat and solidifies HGC’s role in southeast Asia.
JT: We offer a spectrum of services including managed firewall and IoT security, managed SD-WAN security, managed cloud security, managed endpoint protection, and more.
HC: In Malaysia, we will be providing HGC’s cybersecurity service which covers sectors including banking and finance, education, government, and enterprise. These services defend against cybersecurity attacks through data protection and endpoint protection products to better protect sensitive information.
JT: We have quite an established security solutions foundation in which we offer comprehensive managed cybersecurity services, including emergency handling, post-incident services, and reviews and assessments. There is also a cybersecurity research and operation center based in Hong Kong that performs threat hunting and proactive threat intelligence research. Most of those services are offered to large enterprise customers.
HC: HGC has been offering managed security services in Hong Kong, and that portfolio has since expanded into other areas across Asia. This is the first time that our cybersecurity service is being offered in southeast Asia.
JT: Malaysia has always been a key market for us, as we have noticed that Malaysian government has been very bold in outpacing its Asian neighbors in terms of cybercrime awareness over the past years. Certainly, when looking at the Malaysian economy, it is one of the many countries in Asia that is rapidly modernizing its approach to the digital economy. Therefore, we see a lot of growth there, a very supportive government, and a lot of opportunities that to be unlocked. For example, right now there is no generalized standards for minimum protected measures across most of the industries in Malaysia. HGC sees all of that as a very positive and encouraging opportunity.
